Brigitte Bardot Inspired makeup

Today I uploaded a Brigitte Bardot inspired makeup look for Youtube!

After looking through my makeup images I posted on here yesterday I felt inspired to re-do a sultry smoky eye makeup look but with a fresh lip and cheek for an updated twist.

I used cool toned eye shadows in midnight blue with MAC's satin taupe to create a different feel rather than the usual grey or black.

new Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation review

I've been on the hunt for yet another foundation. I'd like to say it's for my kit but really I like to try these for myself too! I know it's a little silly to get excited about foundations but? I do!

A few weeks ago I went along to my local debenhams with a few different foundations in mind I would like to try. I wanted something with good even coverage, non oily, doesn't need too much powder to set, can be used for oily skin, give a luminosity and also is a good colour match! Not too much to ask hey?

While I was travelling to London I'd notice a sample of the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation in one of my magazines, glamour i think.

I don't really think i was expecting much of a difference from the usual Vitalumiere and I'm not a huge fan of this for myself as I find it's a bit too sheer and too glowy for my normal to combination skin, THIS however was a total surprise!

 I actually purchased is 2 colours as i liked the sample so much, No 10 Beige pastel and no 30 Beige sable. I firstly found that the tones are slightly lighter than the usual colour range of lumiere products, which in my book is fine however may not be suitable for much darker skins. (can be a little problem with chanel products i hear)

 Here are swatches of no 10 beige pastel and no 30 beige sable on the back of my hand, I know, not the greatest way to show you! (sorry)

 Here they are mixed together in the middle so that you can see the colours.

 So, what's so brilliant about this foundation? well everything! It's lightweight but provides brilliant coverage without looking cakey or makeuppy (?), it glides onto the skin effortlessly and is very easy to blend in, the colours are nice, not quite as yellow based at the other chanel foundations, in fact more 'beigey' as the names  suggest. It sets leaving a lovely luminous from within kind of finish, like pro lumiere but without the need to powder to set. I am in LOVE!! The smell is so clean and fresh too!

 I've been using it now for a few weeks and am hooked! Here are a few snap shots (thanks Kristen!) from a beautiful bride and bridesmaid I did the makeup for last weekend. Both Emma the bride and Kay usually are huge fans of Estee Lauder doublewear, which was the other foundation I took samples for at the same time.So it was a bit of a challenge to see how they liked the finish.

I guess you can tell from this that I didn't fall in love with the doublewear quite as much but there's always the summers heat to contend with so we will see what happens there!

MOTN, last fridays night out makeup

I went out for a quiet drink with some friends last Friday and wanted to try a slightly different brights look than my usual tangerine! (on the lips!)

I wanted to create quite a classic pin up eye with a punchy pink lip and cheek!

 Of course I used my new Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua (for purposes of blogging now known as CVA, hurts my fingers typing it so much haha) On the eyes I used -

MAC e/s in vanilla on the lid and blended out up to the brow bone

MAC wedge in the crease with a crease brush, blending out into the vanilla and added more vanilla under the brow to define.

MAC omega and mystery in my brows

MAC wedge under the bottom lashes

Clinique gel liner in black

Eyelure natural lashes (new ones, sorry can't remember the no but you should check out their new ones)

MAC CCB in pearl on the cheekbones to highlight

Chanel soilel du tan in hollows of cheeks and blended up into the CCB

Illamasqua blush and lipstick from the sirens palette! (I'm not sure if they're in the permanent collection but would definitely recommend you check out illamasqua if you have not already!

I swapped around the lipstick for the evening with MAC's girl about town to match my Bright fuchsia nails, a look I will try again soon!

A quick makeup of the day look and party in the dark..

I had an amazing time last week doing the makeup for the Prodigafashion show at the corn exchange in leeds!

I uploaded a really quick video on youtube which just shows what I was wearing and talked through which products but here's closer look! I will do another post very soon showing you my final creation for the models makeup and also a few sneaky shots of Olly Murrs and Shane ward performing! I was rather too excited about that part!

It's been faaar too long since I last blogged..

I've been really busy during wedding season and have LOVED every minute of it!

Only thing is, it's only left me time to look after my two boys, clean brushes, buy more makeup..ummm not all that bad then!

A little photo of my lovely friend Nicola, who inspired my rant about my love for these foundations, she really has the best skin!!

So, mainly as I've been meaning to blog about some of my favourite products for a month now, I thought I'd start with my Chanel foundations and bronzer..

I've had these in my kit for over a year now and love them so much have just re-purchased pro Lumiere in 20, vitalumiere in 30 and pro Lumiere in 50 to have a reasonable range to mix. It was purely indulgent but I added the bronze universel to my purchase, mainly as I've always wanted it and I figured, hey, it's the summer, I may have a tan (yes, from st tropez and xen tan ) so will get my use out of it!

I love all of the 'lumiere' products but 'pro' and 'vita' variety's seem to work the best for me, although I would certainly say the 'matt' and 'lift' are good too, for different skin types.

So..what do I love about them?? well, I can't ever forget Sam on my pixiwoo/fashionface course explaining why these work so beautifully but be it the correct explanation (or not too accurate) here is my way of explaining- Pro lumiere is a medium coverage foundation which gives a luminous finish. Something to do with 'spherical particles, bouncing light, flawless skin, you know) Do not be fooled into thinking this is not for those of us who have vaguely oily t zones, it's nothing a little bit of powder can't eliminate!

It is truly beautiful, I like to think of it as a second skin for my face, but a whole lot clearer and more glowing! If it's natural, flawless and glowing skin you're after..I would say give this a try! Below is a (rather bad) pic of me..with Pro lumiere 20 on..possibly some translucent powder over t zone. My skin is really not the most perfect either so you can see how good I think it is at evening and perfecting everything..

In the picture below I have more of a tan, so this is vitalumiere in 30. Equally as lovely as pro, but a little more sheer and glowy, so if you prefer a slightly lighter finish, or have dry skin, this is beautiful!


I can very definitely say I cannot imaging ever being the right colour for 50 (unlike my gorgeous friend Nicola who has such a beautiful warm bronzed tone to her skin) however it is a good colour to use to add a little in to my other foundations to match up the colour depending on tan. On the pic below I added a tiny pump of 50 to my 20, and it just added a nice warmth to the colour.

There you have it..a few of my most certain 'cannot live without' items..

I don't think I collect things anymore.. I am after all nearly 32! (I keep thinking in my head I already am 32, which is odd, you would have thought I'd try hang on to 31 till November!)

Back to the point, sorry this is quite rambly, I've been up since 4am to do my first ever next sale with two of my also crazy friends, one who is literally 9 months pregnant!!

(I will get to the point in a min, I promise...) I'm not sure if it was the rug I purchased but it's sent my husband, John, into summer clean overdrive and he's literally sorted out everything today. I figured I'd join in, why not, I'd only been up since 4am at said next sale and had then made -up 3 bridesmaids and a beautiful bride, why would I be tired? ..YAWN! POINT JO!!...

Okay, well, I thought I'd re-organise my nail polish 'collection' as to be honest it was in a pink really useful box which was no longer really useful as I couldn't fasten the lid anymore.

I was quite proud of myself putting all the same bottles together, looked quite pretty really. Shame I have another 2 bags full which have to just stay in the bottom of the case..

NOTE TO SELF!! I DO NOT NEED ANYMORE NAIL POLISH..

but they are so pretty..

and make me feel nice..

and don't really cost that much (elf £1-50) ;)

and make up for my lack of style these days

I don't really buy much make-up.. oops! yes i do!

I was sat thinking about which may be my favourite make-up item I've recently purchased, and although I seriously do need these items (ahem!) I couldn't really decide on a favourite, so thought I'd blog about them all! I have to say though, I'm not necessarily a make-up snob (meant in an inoffensive manner, of course) I actually love all kinds of make-up, just as long as it looks pretty and does the job! so.. here they are, my new, (in the last 2 months) favourites!

MAC melon pigment (thanks to Nic @pixiwoo for the recommendation) It's fab for highlighting and makes me feel all summery and glowing!

MAC lilicent BLUSHCREME. It's a beautiful delicate cream blush which is build able for a gorgeous peachy cheek

Illamasqua Rich liquid foundation in RF 120 is a full coverage foundation, perfect for a blank canvas to work on. Beware though, its a tough cookie to work in! Also illamasqua nail varnish in Blow, I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Lemon to the max... and Illamasqua sheer lip gloss in torture. You will notice there's a definite theme with the coral! It's amazing over a peachy lipstick!

The beautiful elegance of Chanel's new Rouge Coco lipsticks! This one is Cambon and gorgeous!
